The beauty of Press Photography is opportunity and grabbing it with both hands. On Saturday whilst mucking out my horses I noticed 7 or 8 cars on the road near my house. This is rare as we only see a couple of cars a day, so with my natural photographers nosiness, I asked what was going on, only to be told that in 5 minutes a double headed steam train will be going down the Ayr to Straraer line for the first time since 1967.
I ran to get my cameras and had to make the decision to go up the hill and get the sea in the background or along my field and use the sky and try a silhouette. As I could hear the train leaving Ayr, I ran along my field and got into position with a minute to spare and got this picture of the the two Stanier Black 5's pulling a outing organised by the Railway Touring Company to Ayr.
I later checked with national rail enquiries and found the time the train was returning. This time I positioned myself up the hill shooting into the setting sun.
